How to send flowers to a patient at St. Mary's General
- Confirm the patient is admitted and which unit they are on. Call the main number, 973-365-4300, and ask; the unit determines whether flowers are allowed.
- Order online with the hospital's street address. Use 350 Boulevard, Passaic, NJ 07055, not a P.O. box.
- Add the patient's full legal name and the unit or room. Put it in the recipient name and delivery-instructions fields so the information desk can route it.
- Order in the morning. Patients are often discharged before noon; an early same-day order has the best chance of arriving in time.
- Include your phone number. The florist calls you if the patient has moved or been discharged, so the delivery can be redirected.

About St. Mary's General
St. Mary's General Hospital is the only hospital in the city of Passaic: a community hospital in the Prime Healthcare system with cardiovascular and cancer programs and a maternal-child health service. It trains residents in internal medicine, psychiatry and anesthesia in programs sponsored by New York Medical College.
The maternity service has labor and delivery, a postpartum unit and a Level II nursery for babies born as early as 32 weeks. The hospital also has intensive care units and an inpatient psychiatric unit on 6 West.
St. Mary's General flower policy
St. Mary's does not publish a flower or balloon policy. It does say that visitors should not give patients food or drinks, that anything brought onto the psychiatric unit is inspected by staff, and that mail and packages are delivered to rooms once a day. Ask the unit before sending flowers to intensive care or psychiatry.
As at most hospitals, flowers are generally welcome on medical, surgical, maternity and rehabilitation floors and not permitted in intensive-care units or rooms with immunocompromised patients. Latex balloons are usually banned; Mylar balloons are fine. If you are unsure which unit the patient is on, call the hospital and ask before ordering.

What to send to a hospital room
- Compact vase arrangement, low fragrance, in a stable non-glass container: fits a crowded bedside table.
- Bright gerbera daisies or sunflowers: cheerful, scent-free and sturdy.
- A small flowering plant: goes home with the patient and keeps giving.
- Mylar balloon bouquet: the fallback when the unit does not allow flowers.
