How to send flowers to a patient at CareWell Health (formerly East Orange General)

  1. Confirm the patient is admitted and which unit they are on. Call the main number, 973-672-8400, and ask; the unit determines whether flowers are allowed.
  2. Order online with the hospital's street address. Use 300 Central Avenue, East Orange, NJ 07018, not a P.O. box.
  3. Add the patient's full legal name and the unit or room. Put it in the recipient name and delivery-instructions fields so the information desk can route it.
  4. Order in the morning. Patients are often discharged before noon; an early same-day order has the best chance of arriving in time.
  5. Include your phone number. The florist calls you if the patient has moved or been discharged, so the delivery can be redirected.

About CareWell Health (formerly East Orange General)

CareWell Health Medical Center is the former East Orange General Hospital, renamed in 2022. It describes itself as the only independent acute-care hospital in Essex County. State records list it as a 201-bed general hospital and a primary stroke center, and in 2025 the New Jersey Department of Health approved a change of ownership on the condition that it keeps operating as a general acute-care hospital.

Its licensed beds are medical-surgical, intensive care and adult psychiatric; the inpatient behavioral health unit is on 4 Main. The state license lists no maternity or pediatric beds, only an outpatient women's health center, so new-baby flowers do not belong here.

CareWell Health (formerly East Orange General) flower policy

CareWell publishes nothing about flowers, plants or balloons. Call the main number, 973-672-8400, and ask the unit before sending flowers, especially to intensive care or the behavioral health unit.

As at most hospitals, flowers are generally welcome on medical, surgical, maternity and rehabilitation floors and not permitted in intensive-care units or rooms with immunocompromised patients. Latex balloons are usually banned; Mylar balloons are fine. If you are unsure which unit the patient is on, call the hospital and ask before ordering.

What to send to a hospital room

  • Compact vase arrangement, low fragrance, in a stable non-glass container: fits a crowded bedside table.
  • Bright gerbera daisies or sunflowers: cheerful, scent-free and sturdy.
  • A small flowering plant: goes home with the patient and keeps giving.
  • Mylar balloon bouquet: the fallback when the unit does not allow flowers.

CareWell Health (formerly East Orange General) delivery FAQ

Yes. East Orange General Hospital was renamed CareWell Health Medical Center in 2022. The address is still 300 Central Avenue, East Orange, NJ 07018.

Does CareWell Health have a maternity ward?

No maternity beds appear in the hospital's state license; it runs an outpatient women's health center. Confirm where the mother delivered before sending new-baby flowers.

Can I send flowers to a patient at CareWell Health Medical Center?

Yes. Order online with the hospital's address (300 Central Avenue, East Orange, NJ 07018), the patient's full name and the unit or room. The florist delivers to the information desk, and hospital staff bring the arrangement to the patient.

Do I need the room number?

It helps but is not required. The patient's full legal name and the unit are enough for the desk to route the delivery.

Is same-day delivery available to CareWell Health (formerly East Orange General)?

Usually, when you order in the morning. The hospital is inside the regular Newark delivery zone; the cutoff for your date is shown at checkout.

What if the patient is discharged before the flowers arrive?

The hospital will refuse the delivery and the florist will contact you to redirect it, normally to the patient's home. Order early in the day to avoid this.
