How to send flowers to a patient at Jersey City Medical Center

  1. Confirm the patient is admitted and which unit they are on. Call the main number, 201-915-2000, and ask; the unit determines whether flowers are allowed.
  2. Order online with the hospital's street address. Use 355 Grand Street, Jersey City, NJ 07302, not a P.O. box.
  3. Add the patient's full legal name and the unit or room. Put it in the recipient name and delivery-instructions fields so the information desk can route it.
  4. Order in the morning. Patients are often discharged before noon; an early same-day order has the best chance of arriving in time.
  5. Include your phone number. The florist calls you if the patient has moved or been discharged, so the delivery can be redirected.

About Jersey City Medical Center

Jersey City Medical Center is a 352-bed teaching hospital and a state-designated Level II regional trauma center. It has Hudson County's only pediatric emergency department, a Level III regional perinatal center with a neonatal intensive care unit, and the Lord Abbett Maternity Wing with private rooms. Jersey City's other hospital, Christ Hospital in the Heights, closed in 2026.

Labor and Delivery is on the fourth floor, with a private Mother-Baby unit in the maternity wing. The hospital also has pediatric inpatient beds, critical care and a psychiatric inpatient unit on campus. Cancer infusion and radiation are outpatient services at a separate site, not in the hospital.

Jersey City Medical Center flower policy

RWJBarnabas Health does not publish a flower or balloon rule for Jersey City Medical Center. The visiting guidelines say only that there is no eating or drinking at the bedside in critical care, and the patient guide notes that volunteers help deliver mail and flowers. Ask the unit before sending to critical care, the NICU or behavioral health.

As at most hospitals, flowers are generally welcome on medical, surgical, maternity and rehabilitation floors and not permitted in intensive-care units or rooms with immunocompromised patients. Latex balloons are usually banned; Mylar balloons are fine. If you are unsure which unit the patient is on, call the hospital and ask before ordering.

What to send to a hospital room

  • Compact vase arrangement, low fragrance, in a stable non-glass container: fits a crowded bedside table.
  • Bright gerbera daisies or sunflowers: cheerful, scent-free and sturdy.
  • A small flowering plant: goes home with the patient and keeps giving.
  • Mylar balloon bouquet: the fallback when the unit does not allow flowers.
